Your treatment plan belongs to you

FAQ

  • What you can expect from us

We will leave the room before you disrobe to your level of comfort.

Your treatment will not be as effective if you are uncomfortable. So, we really do mean your level of comfort. If you are not comfortable disrobing we absolutely can treat you fully clothed.

The only part of you that will not be covered during the massage is the part of you that is being treated. Our table has sheets, a blanket and a table warmer.

We will not treat areas of you that you have not given us permission to touch.

It is perfectly acceptable for you to change your mind during the massage about which areas you would like treated, just let us know and we will adapt accordingly.

We will not use more pressure than you are comfortable with.

However, you may be surprised at how your perception of pressure can change during a treatment. It is not uncommon for nerves to become less sensitive after a few minutes of contact.

We will listen to what you tell us without taking offense.

If you are uncomfortable for any reason we will hear you and respond to your requests.

  • What we expect from you

Will tell us when you are uncomfortable.

We are very good at what we do, but we haven’t yet managed telepathy.

Will have goals and tell us about them.

People get massages for a variety of reasons, and you will get the best experience if we know what you are looking to accomplish.

    Will trust our knowledge.

And trust that we will answer all of your questions as best as we can. If we don’t have an answer for you, we will refer you to someone who should be able to help you.

    Will remain respectful and appropriate.

Treat us like medical professionals - Please, no jokes that are of a sexual nature.

The only appropriate time for you to disrobe or undress is after we have left the room.

It is never ok to expose your genitals to us, ever.

  • What will happen

If you haven't filled out your paperwork online, we will ask you to fill it out in the office.

We will then take you into the treatment room and ask you to tell us your story and why you've come to see us. We may ask you further questions about your history and pain, then direct you to lie on the table.

You should always undress to your comfort level. We may ask you to undress completely and lay under the sheets or stay fully clothed on top of the sheets, depending on the goals of your massage. How clothed you are is always your decision. We will leave the room to wash our hands so you can disrobe in private.

We use a full set of sheets, a blanket, and a table warmer. The only part of you being uncovered will be the part we are currently working on.

During the massage, you are welcome to comment at any time if you are uncomfortable, confused, delighted, sleepy, ticklish, restless, have a song stuck in your head, etc. Mend is a safe space, and your feelings and reactions are valid. If you fall asleep, we will not be insulted (it's quite a compliment).

After the massage, we will leave the room so you can redress. When you are ready, you can meet us back in the office to discuss your plan of care and schedule your next appointment.

  • When you shouldn't get massage

Please do not come in when you may be contagious.

We are more than happy to help you reschedule your appointment for a better day.

If you have bruises, rashes, or sunburn we will not be able to work on those areas.

If you have recently had surgery we will need an okay from your physician.

If you deal with a chronic problem such as migraines, fibromyalgia, or lupus you will need to use your judgment to know if a massage is a good idea. If you are recently diagnosed, it is better to reschedule than to possibly make things worse. Be sure to talk with your physician if you are unsure.

  • Insurance

We do not bill insurance, however we have National Provider Identification numbers that may be used for reimbursement, client’s insurance permitting. Some HSAs or Flex-spending plans will cover massage, but you should check with your provider first.

We are happy to communicate with the rest of your healthcare team to coordinate treatment.

  • Cancellations

There will be a $25 charge for any appointment that is missed or cancelled less than 24-hours in advance. Cancelations less than 4 hours before your appointment or any “No Show” will be charged the full amount for each missed appointment.

All new clients will be asked to put a credit card on hold. The card is held by a secure third-party called Stripe which has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. The card will only be charged in the event of a late cancellation, or to pay for a service at the client’s request.

If you arrive late to your appointment, please understand that we strive to respect everyone's time and may not be able to extend your appointment due to scheduling. You will be charged for the time you originally booked.

  • Tipping

We appreciate tips, but they are 100% optional. We also enjoy tasty snacks, tea, and giant microbe plushies.

  • Minors

Children over the age of 12 are welcome at Mend.

All minors must have a parent accompany them to their first appointment to sign a permission form. Parents of children ages 12-15 must stay in the office for the whole appointment. All parents are welcome to sit in the treatment room during the appointment or relax in the reception area.
